My friend has 2 teenage kids.

Kids aren't as into music anymore, per her.

The venue might not be big enough to book.

I remember The Varsity a dynamic, fun place to be around '95 to '97. If I recall, they had Latin nights on Thursdays and Retro nights 70's/80's music on Fridays. I remember both nights were packed, lines outside. And Saturday nights it was mostly a band playing, what a great place it was.

Can never go wrong with cheap beer and pretty girls. $20 of partying is all we needed.

What are you saying?

Because your friend has teenage kids who don't like music, that the Varsity is not big enough to book a band? What?

This is a shame. I looked and saw no shows listed since July. Nothing in the future.

Do college students even listen to R&R anymore?

My kids, who are under 21, over the last five years have talked me into going to see ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, Judas Priest, The Melvins, etc. I've taken them to see bands I like such as Dinosaur Jr., The Cure, Michigander, Psychedelic Furs, Zebra and The Cult and they loved it. They can't be the only ones.

Yep! There is a fairly healthy metal scene in BR. A few really good up and coming youthful rock bands in Louisiana as well. They may not listen to "our" rock and roll, but there are definitely bands out there with heavy sounds packing arenas and venues all over.
