There's A LOT going on on this album. Some really beautiful moments, some really complex. This will take many listens to really give a rating for.
Agreed 100%

I went into the weekend kind of disappointed at how inaccessible the album was. Then I probably listened to it 5 times straight thru over the course of the weekend and now I think it's an amazing. It's definitely not as easy on the ear as Sun Giant or the self titled LP and probably won't have as many crowd pleasers as those albums. But I think it's their Kid A. Some really cool complex stuff that probably plays best at high volume with headphones.
That spot when the band comes in out of nowewhere after about a minute in "I Am All That I Need" and interrupts him is absolutely sick. That song has to the opener in their shows for this tour. "Third of May" may be my favorite song of the year. "Cassius" and "On Another Ocean" are also standouts.
I highly recommend repeat listens on high volume before you judge this one.

I Am All That I Need is amazing
The part at around 4:36 when he it comes in with "I was a child..." then you have this build up where you hear him singing as he walks out a door and closes it to this hugeee grand ending.
Goddam what a song

I don't think I'll put anything from this album on any playlist of favorite songs.
That said, I've listened to it twice working today, and I enjoy it as background music.

indeed. First listen told me: wait and see. There's nothing that stands out, but there's incredible depth and complexity to be dug through. I haven't had the opportunity for repeated listens yet, but they are to come.

Is it weird that I think I might* like this one more than Helpless Blues? Helpless Blues is awesome as well.
Their self titled and Sun Giant are flawless. Absolutely amazing music.

No doubt. Drops in the river is one of the best songs ever put on wax

I've given it about 6 full listens now. I'm not getting it. I'm sure I would appreciate it more if I had the time to give it the full headphones treatment, and lay on the bed and just zone out for about an hour. But I don't really have that luxury these days. Maybe one day it will click for me.
