I was wondering about the last few artists you got into randomly. Could be anything. Did you just discover Paul Simon or The Bangles or White Snake? Tell us about it. And I mean less of you just listened to The Grateful Dead live in 1984 as opposed to the live in 79 show but an artist you didn't know about before. But if you did just discover The Grateful Dead sure let us know that too.

For me the last 3 (random arbitrary number) are:

Arms Length an emo band with one full record released in 2022 and a few EPs.

Spanish Love Songs a rock band whose first album was released in 2015

Chappel Roan a pop singer. She's kinda blowing up but I've never seen her discussed here.

And how did y'all discover your new listens? Two were on TikTok and Spanish Love Songs was a Spotify algorithm recommendation.

A pandora station for a band you like and they play other similar or influencing artists.

Currently, I have been listening to Gaslight Anthem. On their station they play punk bands, garage rock, 80s alternative and Zac Bryan. It has opened up my eyes to a bunch of bands that I may or may not have heard before. I.e. bouncing souls, face to face, the menzingers, etc.

I also listen to Little Steven’s Underground Garage. Just a fantastic station when in the car.

Southtowne Lanes, a post-hardcore/emo band that has been around awhile but recently released their second full length. Ian Cohen recommended their new album on his podcast

Demersal, a Danish hardcore band who released a great album a few months ago. Their album got a write-up on Brooklynvegan.

No Man, a crusty hardcore/screamo outfit out of Richmond. A friend told me about them because the band features a couple members of another hardcore I loved, Majority Rule.

Silent Majority, a long island emo band from the late 90s. I read an oral history of this scene, and silent majority is worshipped by everyone who saw them.

Explore the Billboard charts from all of the decades. Do some youtube searches for them. That would be a great way to start. I know a lot of the greats never made it to the Billboard list but this would get you started on your trek

Spotify is great for helping to find new music but it is dependent on you telling it what you like by liking albums and artists. Today is Release Radar playlist; I try to run through that every Friday but usually have to skip through some crap. Monday is Discover Weekly playlist; i try to go for an hour plus bike ride and listen and like a few. Those likes will bloom into more suggestions. I still have a bunch of college buddies and we share music in group chats and in Spotify (you can combine to form a mixed playlist). Some of the newer artists i have found are Kevin Morby, Kurt Vile, Big Thief, Waxahatchee, Sheepdogs, Angel Olsen, Amyl and the Sniffers, Ty Segall, Ron Gallo, Gaz Coombes, The Murlocs, King Gizzard...., Rose City Band, Low Cut Connie, The Bones of J.R. Jones, Black Pumas, flipturn, Jamie Wyatt, Sierra Ferrell, Charlie Crockett, Caroline Rose, Idles, Nation of Language, Amen Dunes, SchoolboyQ, Matt Champion, Hermanos Guiterrez, Yard Act.

As I find new music, i store it in a playlist for the year it came out.

Favorite new to me song is Nobody's Sweetheart by Caitlin Rose. I heard it after recently discovering that one of our local HD Radio stations plays xponential radio. I looked her up and could not believe she is considered country. I was thinking more in the lines of Waxahachie/Soccer Mommy etc.

Anyway, that station plays enough stuff I know to keep me interested, then throws out stuff I have never heard. here's a list from today:
