Looking forward to this. He makes good shite.

Edit: This song is extremely preachy. It sounds great, but damn it hits you over the head. I have always thought that FJM treads the line between a lovable cynic and pretentious bastard. Nevertheless, he always entertains.

This YouTube comment kind of sums it up for me,

"Don't get me wrong—I love FJM—but this song's lyrics are too clever by half. There are some nuggets in there, but a lot of it sounds like dorm room philosophy to me. The music is gorgeous, but a lot of it seems just way too on-the-nose to actually be profound (unlike a lot of "Honeybear").?"

He is very cynical, no doubt about it.

I think that's what makes him great, though. Some strong messages with this, but the people that will actually listen to this type of music likely already feel this way. People that don't listen to him are those that should hear a song like this.

A lot of his cynicism/preachiness is an act from my estimation. He has an extremely dry, snarky sense of humor. But he has a pretty great way with words and a great feel for making catchy tunes. Looking forward to another great record

I like Pure Comedy a lot better than Real Love Baby. RLB is just kinda boring.

To each his own. I think RLB is one of best songs of 2016. Definitely more straight forward for FJM. But to me it was kind of refreshing after the super heavy handed "clever/cynical" stuff.

Rlb was a stand alone track. That won't be on the album

There isn't anything that he's put out that I didn't like. He's my generations Randy Newman.

Not one mention of Angela Hill from WWL at the top of that video. Hahaha
Wonder if he got that footage from his time living in New Orleans.

Can't wait for the new album and a stop back here in town.

His long explanation of what the album is about. It seems like it will be a commentary on both the left and right.

I feel very similar to this single release as I did to Bored in the USA. I didn't love it, but it fit very nicely with the rest of the album, which I loved, and I eventually found appreciation for the song.

Can't freaking wait for the album. Comes out a day before my birthday.

Damn, both those songs are great!

Interesting read too...

This is deep...man

quote:

We’ve already built the wall! It’s a great, great wall that goes up to the heavens and is as transparent as museum glass. It’s a beautiful wall that winds surgically through nations, cities, neighborhoods, and sometimes even homes. It is a globe within a globe, and those who live within its interior are as clueless as to what’s happening on the other side as we are to what’s happening right now on the far side of Mars.

Early candidate for album of the year, and I have only heard 4 songs (one of which was just him and an acoustic guitar live on the radio)

I agree. Damn. I loved the last album but I wore it the he'll out and got sick of it.

These new songs are very powerful. Excellent song writing.

The new album has been out there for a few weeks, so check your back channels. It's great. Love the lush melodies and songwriting. There is a good cohesion in all lyrics. The production is very crisp and intricate. The main critique would be how slow and meandering it is, especially in the middle of the album with Birdie and Leaving LA.

Hope to catch him live sometime this year.

Magic Mountain might be his best work. That song is so ridiculously good
