Solder or solderless?

Obsidian is one brand I've seen but many others are out there. I've never soldered anything ever, so a solderless system interests me. Also the ease of just basically plugging in new pickups as opposed to soldering them in.

Any of you with experience using these? I suck, so gigging and the abuse of gigging is not a concern, but I do want the thing to sound good. That's the whole point anyway.

I really should join a guitar forum.

I’ll watch later. At work now.

That better not be some damned fetish “solder dripping porn”!

I draw the line at melted wax.

Electronics or changing pickups won't make you sound any better. Your sound is in your fingers, get a few lessons from someone who makes beautiful sounds with their guitar. A good player can sound great on a $100 squire and a bad player will still sound like shiest on a $5000 les paul.

Keep that reasonable advice the hell out of my thread, sir.

If what you like is solderless, great, but don't let solder or solderless decide your pickup/electronics choice. The huge, massive lion's share majority of stuff out there is not available as solderless and/or complete kits. If you "have" to have a solderless system, you're going to paint yourself in a corner with very limited options.

Another helpful point. That crushes my dream. Teach me how to solder Fret Shack.

I need a safe space. I’m gonna RA.

Lol

Just weighing the time and $$ in buying an iron and solder. For the 10 or so solder joints I may do.

But soldering is one of those things that it may be handy to know how to do one day??? Never know.

A soldering iron is like $10, the solder like $5.

I know. Lol

Actually I read to do it right you may as well spend 30-40 to get a hotter one?? I’ve blown 20-spots on far dumber things.

Exactly. It's a couple of sets of strings. And you'll find more use for it than you think.

Your pretty much limited to EMGs when it comes to solderless. I have the Gilmour set and they’re ok. I love the mid boost thing. It can give your single coils an almost humbucker type tone.
