Does having a good singing voice matter to you?

The Maroon 5 thread in the OT got me thinking. Several are talking about them being good because Adam Levine has a good singing voice and I hear similar arguements all the time by people. Cookie cutter music but so and so has a good voice and that seems to be all that matters. Hell there’s a singing competition show called The Voice. It’s not just bubbly pop either, whenever people talk about Queen much of the time the conversation doesn’t really involve the music per se but rather Freddie Mercury had a good voice.
Does this even matter to you? To me it is irrelevant, my interest is in how interesting the music is not simply an artists skill in hitting the notes accurately. Bob Dylan was a horrible singer but his music was interesting which made it great. Hell the flaws in his voice added to it, it made a more human sound that elicited more nuances and emotions to the songs. Liking music simply because the person sings well seems like a boring approach to take imo.

It does for me. I appreciate and enjoy someone who has the ability to sing on pitch with soul. I also appreciate a unique voice, one that I can recognize.

The music and lyrics matter more to me. I would never like someone that could sing like the angels but had shitty songs.

I’m a big fan of the folk/Americana type genre. Kristifferson and John Prine would not be mistaken for Julliard/Berkeley trained voices, but their lyrics are so good and their voices are both authentic and intelligible.
Dylan’s concerts suck not strictly because of a bad voice, but because it’s so unintelligible that you don’t know what the hell song he is “singing” half the time.

All depends on the genre and the music’s intent. It also depends on what you consider to be a “good singing voice”.

David Bowie and Rod Stewart are my favorite singers of all time, and I don't think either one has a very good singing voice. They just do a good job at singing the certain notes they have for different songs they make and they make it work out. There's a ton of good singers out there today with below average voices.

Its important but not a dealbreaker. Certain artists lyrically transcend the need for a melodic delivery. Like sturgill simpson. His content allows me to overlook his mediocre vocal ability

It matters but if the songs suck, the songs suck. Good singing doesn't make up for shitty music.
