re: Does anybody else hate "stairway to heaven"?

Maybe that's why I don't get the hate. I have not listened to radio in at least 15 years. Why let someone else dictate your listening patterns?

I loved Stairway when it came out, the best song on the radio at the time. But it got played endlessly and I was tired of it well before they quit playing it.
Similar situation for Freebird, Sweet Home Alabama, and especially Hotel California. Man, that one has not aged well, at all. Probably most of you were not around when these songs were fresh to the radio and then beaten like a dead horse.
Of the bunch I'd rate Stairway the highest, by a pretty good margin. But I'm still not ready to seek it out.

I don't listen to the radio either (unless the GF is) but I did for years when I didn't have better options. Unfortunately, time has not made it less annoying.

Why? It's an awesome song. Overplayed, yeah...but its still an awesome song.

Hotel California is a great song

It's a classic no doubt but I can see how someone could get tired of it.

No. It's not my favorite LZ song, but I certainly don't hate it either.

Those that hate it probably listen to a lot of FM classic rock radio.

I agree, truth be told. I like to hear it sparingly, though.

I may have heard it once in the past few years. Don't really listen to radio except that country crap my wife listens to while we are driving.
Guess the last time I hard it was a link posted here of a LZ tribute with Anne and Nancy Wilson singing.

I am about as big a fan of Led Zeppelin as there is.
Stairway isn't in my top ten of their songs.
However there are many many live versions that I truly enjoy. The feel of the song and solo live is very good, almost a jazzy feel. I also have a sound check of it done reggae very very different.

It is certainly overplayed as are many other songs on "classic rock" radio. And you would think it's the only song they ever recorded.
Go back and listen to the entire albums and discover the wealth of great songs that never get played on the radio.
Along the same lines, how many songs by Grand Funk do you hear with any regularity, aside from We're an American Band ? With today's music technology, there's no excuse for being stuck to terrestrial radio.

I hate Led Zeppelin because I hate Robert Plant's voice
"Stairway" is especially pompous -- I do like this version though
