I'm 23 and it seems that every girl I know has the shittiest taste in music. They all prefer to listen to "pop" music over the classics, and in most cases have no clue as to who some of the greatest bands of all time are. Ex: I was listening to some Zeppelin the other day in my car and had a girl with me. She asked me "who is this? I like this song," I replied, "This is Led Zeppelin," She responds, "Does he have any other good songs?"
Is it just my generation, as a whole's musical preferences are all out of whack, or is it just a growing ignorance to what great music used to be?

My wife's favorite bands are Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the Beatles, and the Beach Boys, and she's 26.
But most girls have shitty taste in music.

Zep's 40 years old, dude. Most people's tastes stop at their own teenage years. Don't take it too seriously, or you'll end up like Shrevie:

I don't take it personally. I just find that a lot more of my guy friends are into classic rock, whereas almost no girls I know are.

I'm a female and Classic Rock is my favorite genre, other than Texas Country. I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Styx, The Eagles, Journey, etc. That was what my dad listened to and I loved it. Styx is still one of my favorite bands.
And I'm only 28. So it sounds like your friends just have shitty taste in music.

Hippy-ish girls will always like this stuff.

my best friend who's a girl has the best taste in music... probably why we get along so well.
However, they are mighty hard to come by. It's a shame

She's not even a little hippy-ish. Her dad's musical tastes just rubbed off on her.

Just so you know, this was true when classic rock came out. I listened to / saw live ZZ Top, Led Zepplelin, the Stones in the 70's.
The girls I knew (I married one) liked / like Elton John, Billy Joel, Bee Gees.

Last girl I dated listened to pretty much everything I listen to; Jimi, SRV, Allman Bros, BB, Buddy, Muddy, and so on. Probably a big reason why we got along as well as we did.
Definitely a huge bonus when a woman has excellent taste in music.

I mainly listen to classic rock....and 80s.
I don't care for most of the stuff on the radio today.
ETA: I should maybe add that I'm 29...

I've seen you post Clapton and Dire Straits multiple times on here, at least I think it was you. We'd get along just fine, good taste.

They're a little harder to find, but they're out there. I've known plenty of girls that grew up listening to Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Skynard, Styx, etc. like me because their dad listened to it.

Mine likes "songs" and cannot tell you who sings anything just about. She told me on our first date a few years back that she liked Aerosmith, so I jammed some of TOYS IN THE ATTIC when I picked her up. Of course, I should have known, just to roll up with "Lovin in an Elevator" and everything would have made sense.
It's okay. Her lack of music knowledge has nothing to do with why I love her. Good thing, too.
