He was pretty active up until 2011-2012 or so, then radio silence? Is he still living in Austin? Still interested in making music? Does anyone know? I've tried finding any news on him the past few years and haven't been successful.

Lol...I apologize, bruh!

I just listened to 4 songs. I am a fan! He kinda reminds me of Ryan Adams a lil bit...the vocal phrasings and lyrics to the songs I heard. The music genre is diff of course.

I like him.

I am glad I clicked on this thread. Thanks!

No prob. He and his bands deserve a lot more attention than they've had over the years. Not sure why he's not more popular.

As far as I know he is living back in Lafayette, but he hasn't been active gig wise for quite some time. I'd heard he is working on a new album, but who knows. The guy is a very different cat, but can sing like nobody's business.

Acid Bath

Any time this band is brought up, I have to let everyone know that my cousin was the drummer. Someone in Acid Bath showed me how to play a power chord, I believe.

I was around jr high at the time and it was all awful noise to me, but still pretty cool.

He just bought a house in Lafayette and was getting his home studio ready about 6 months ago.

I'll call him tonight and ask him about an album. Last thing he told me is that he had enough songs for 2 albums. But he is a perfectionist. I've seen him sit YEARS on songs because he couldn't get the music where he wanted. Some songs never even made it to an official recording. It's one reason why with permission I bootlegged his aocustic shows back in the day. I recorded a very famous circulated show from the Sidebar in Laf in '03 that could damn near be an official live release.

Been friends with him since 2002, I used to run his deadboy website and make t-shirts for him.

Me and Moon (Sammy's nephew) opened for Dax from 2003-2005

Damn, that is a very legit CSB. Same with the poster above you.

That's cool that you know him. I was spoiled a while he lived in Austin. I got to see him several times while he was there.

Recorded by me in 2003 with a Samsung minidisc direct from the soundboard with Dax's permission.

The Sidebar shows were awesome. I made a handful of them back in the day.

We were probably in the same room multiple times. Those were the days I just turned 21 and I followed Dax around like a fanboy before he befriended me.

By 2003 we were good friends. My first shows were at the Bayou in BR back in 2001, that's how I met Dax, I just walked up to him and offered a smoke and just me and him walked around chimes st. blazing.

Tell Dax that me & a group of friends who are all Louisiana natives in our early to mid 40's still completely obsess over the greatness that is Acid Bath. Thank him for us.

Here's a csb moment:

I'm 33 so I was too young to see Acid Bath live but me and my friends in BR loved those albums and wore them out.

Fast forward to 2003 in a hotel room in Biloxi, MS, we got Dax to sing "Bones of Babydolls" while my lead singer played the guitar. It was one of those life changing moments, it was one of the coolest moments of my life at the time, and it's still up there. It was pretty special because by that time Dax would not even touch AB songs and was actually annoyed at the million requests when people (every show, too) shouted out "DEAD GIRL!!" every. fricking. show.

Talked to Dax briefly last night.

He's got 2 albums worth of material and is working on a 2 disc set. He is about halfway finished and said he was going to start playing shows in the fall. He played me a song over the phone called 13 can't be divided in a new arrangement. Pretty amazing.

Anyone I know, csb but I said I'd call. He seems in good spirits.

Thanks for coming through! So is that one double album and one normal length album, or just one double album?

How was the new song? Similar to his previous work or something different?

He wouldnt tell me exactly, all he would say is that he had 2 discs worth of material but about 16 fullly fleshed out songs. He hinted about a double release, so just one double album or two single albums.

The song he played over the phone is a lot different than his normal stuff. Indian singing almost and real early blues sounding.

Ive known him for while, and he is sitting on way more than that but sadly a lot of it will probably never see the light of day. I've heard him working on songs that were some of his best that never made it to an album. For instance Evil Hides (it's on the recording in the link above) is one of his best songs, it's ridiculous and it never made it to an album.

He has many, many that good.

Here's his home setup:

Thanks for sharing all this info and the show you recorded. Just got to listening to it. Evil Hides is amazing. Dax's musical compositions can be pretty basic at times but his voice can transform a simple song into something incredible. Evil Hides is a prime example.

It is, it's literally 2 power chords.

But the range his voice travels and the sheer power of it transforms the song. It's so haunting and beautiful at the same time.
