He is great musically, but the dude has some extremely racist songs he has released. They are quite intense.

I wouldn't doubt it. My understanding is that he was trying to be funny but wasn't really racist. I will let others argue the consistency of that; I'm not going down that rabbit hole. But yeah, I could absolutely see him having a black drummer or even full band while recording those songs if he was strictly being tongue in cheek.

Yeah only like 3 or 4 from the actual album were racist, the rest were mainly over the top sexually related.. it was all done as a joke and he's apologized for it
the original Johnny Rebel (there were several imitations, just random mp3s with his name) was way more fricked up and just in bad taste in my opinion... and the dude was from Crowley of all places

If you look at his whole body of work, he’s got some great material (minus the racist stuff that is probably less than 10% of his catalogue). Focus on songs like the one below instead of the crap and you will have a better appreciation.
