Popular country went to shite the same time all the other pop culture stuff did, which is why you have to go indie in all phases of the game to get it right.

Me either. Such a great album that should have had a few hits. It just isn't what makes the money these days and as such you won't hear it from stations trying to make money.

Dunno. But I saw his marriage to shania cement the change in tone of country music. More of a mainstream pop sound that was extremely marketable, but utterly bereft of soul.

Yea it was.

She was so fine though

I'm still hung up on the outlaw country

ETA: I like music sung by guys who get arrested and thrown out of bars and shite like that. Good ol honky tonk heroes.

The sound can be debated but I think of the quality of the songs put out is kinda just natural progression/evolution. It's probably very difficult to keep coming up with some of the golden hits that Nashville was churning out in the late 80's/90's.

But if country music was still was ole Ferlin Husky and the boys were putting out, I wouldn't want to hear that either.

I think it just all comes off being a business. The labels figured out they could make much more money off the younger generation with iTunes and music vids and crap like that, so they start putting out music that caters to them. The music of the 80's was geared more towards the mid to late 20's bar hopping beer drinking cowboy. Now it's all about "making my speakers go boom boom"

Nashville country has got to be divorced from the music scene. If any artist come out of the big Nashville labels they must immediately be shunned because their music is 100% shite.

Which doesn't make much sense, since they are listening to it through earbuds. Why play it any louder than necessary.

Framework for generic 2000's country song

Mention something about how big your truck is, say something about how country you are, maybe throw something in about kicking somebody's arse, say LOTS of stuff about being in love with some chick in a high school manner

Large part of it.

But it's like tv shows and movies. It's just hard to keep putting out quality stuff.

Maybe you're right, but I refuse to accept it.

Jamey Johnson still puts out some stuff that is vastly superior to what's on the radio these days.

Just pick any random song off his last two albums (that lonesome song was a FANTASTIC album)

Don't forget to name drop Cash/Hank/Waylan/George/Willie.

Waylan's son sums it up pretty good in this track.
