I’m a 40 year old and been a extreme metal/hardcore fan as long as I can remember and I see a lot of concerts that I wouldn’t mind attending come through Chelsea’s though I doubt I could get my wife or many people in my social circle to attend …: is this a place I would feel comfortable at or will I be surrounded by nineteen and twenty year olds and looked upon as spoiling thier party and some old creep

If you go to a metal show, everyone will look like you. It’s a concert hall, not a scene bar.

You will be in good company. I’m in my lower 30’s, most of my metal scene friends are late 20’s-mid 30’s, and that’s who goes to metal shows there.
While you do get some young college kids every now and then for some events, the heavy music community in BR (unlike Lafayette) skews 30+. You won’t look out of place at all.

The young ones can't afford the drinks!

Was there last night for a metal show and everyone was about the same age as me (I’m 32) minus the handful of 19 year olds who like metal. What everyone else said is true, the BR metal scene tends to be us 30+ year olds who started going to shows at the Darkroom on Florida Blvd in like 05/06 when we were teens.

No doggie, we were going to all ages Acid Bath shows in Gonzales and getting fricked up at Weber City Bar.

It depends on the band. I mostly go to old people shows but some of these local shows have a younger fan base.

If it’s a metal show the crowd will be…metal

All roads lead back to the dark room, lol. So many of my friends played in bands there.

Chelsea's Live is a great venue. Seen Black Flag and Drive By Truckers there over the last few months.
I don't understand your reticence though. The age range of most crowds is dependent on the fan base.
