After one listen?
AOTY contenders for me:
Kacey Musgraves
Brockhampton
Janelle Monae
Pusha T
Father John Misty
NoName
Kids See Ghosts
Kamasi Washington
Kali Uchis
I’m expecting Anderson Paak to come out in a few weeks and be at the top of this.

I see a lot of album of the year hype. Although lil wayne’s flow has changed, his originality and lyricism is indisputable and it shows in this album

I listened to it through this morning and liked it more than I thought I would!
The last song when he said when he shot himself it wasn't accidental that hit.

I think he’s got it locked up.

Lil Wayne hasn't put out decent music since the Carter 3 Leak mixtape with I Feel Like Dying etc in 2007. In all honesty, him succumbing to one of his codeine seizures 6-7 years ago would've done wonders for his legacy.

I think It will get a 70-75 at best on metacritic/albumoftheyear. It isn't an AOTY contender for critics, I am pretty sure of that.
NME review: 6/10
I'll post some as they come in.

Might be in the minority here but I think Luca Brasi 3 >>> Tha Carter V

Luca Brasi 3 is great and i'll be jamming it all weekend, but the Carter V is a monster. Wayne really shined as a lyricist on this album. i would put the bars on the C5 right there with C2/C3 but it is behind them when it comes to hooks
i'm gonna go with 8.5/10 but probably has more tracks total that i'll keep coming back to than any albums of the last 2 years

NME: 6/10
Pitchfork: 7.4/10
Entertainment Weekly: 6.7/10
Variety: 8/10
Metacritic score: 72/100
I lean somewhere around that Pitchfork score. Plenty on the album to enjoy, but lots of things that keep it from being a top tier release. Expectations for it were low for me personally, so anything solid from him on this is a win.
Standouts: Mona Lisa, Dope Ni**az, Let It All Work Out, Open Letter, Mess
Didn't Like: Don't Cry, What About Me, Open Safe, Start This shite Off Right, Problems

I've listened and like a lot of it. My biggest criticism is it's too long and has the resulting filler and doesn't have anything that is as genre defining as some of Wayne's best.
That said, it's a solid effort that someone 20 years in the rap game can be proud of. It dials back some of the excesses that got Wayne into the self-parody vein for a bit, and that helps it a lot.
I also liked Mona Lisa and Dope ****** a lot. Famous is an underrated song, and more introspective than Wayne usually gets.

I read their review and just lol at complaining about Wayne being misogynistic. Half their review was talking about women.

My wife is not a big rap fan, but I play it around her. One time I asked her who Lil Wayne was and she said "he's the guy who says b***h a lot, right?"
If Entertainment Weekly is put off by misogyny, they're not going to like the entire genre of rap much.

I haven’t stopped listening to this. Still bumping in the car, and in the gym. The whole CD is great. Mona Lisa is my favorite probably followed by Used 2 and let it all work out. He opens up a lot in this album.
