I've been relistening Bill Kreutzmann and Billy Strings shows they have done and Billy is so much better than Mayer. I'm 100 percent for Billy replacing John in the future for whatever the Dead does after Dead and Co, he just is so much better its not even close

One is 43 and one is 28. A person changes a lot in that time frame so lets just enjoy what each of them do while they are doing it.
fwiw ...Billy is great playing that type music and the first thing I thought when I saw him play for the first time is the only thing that could bring this guy down is drugs, booze or women*.
*Drugs, booze and women have brought down many (if not most) great musicians.

I seriously doubt that would happen. There are way to many variables including a plethora of musicians that already have their established bands. Oteil, Jeff, and John have developed chemistry since they first started playing together 6 years ago. You can't just say ..."John you're fired, Billy Strings is taking your place because he's more talented". Additionally, Strings was invited by Bill K as a guest to sit in for the recent Billy & The Kid shows (7 total). Strings has a full time band that is very tight musically and tour throughout the year.
Comparison: John cut his teeth playing Blues while emulating BB King, Clapton, and SRV. Billy Strings began playing bluegrass at the age of 4 and patterned his style after Dave Grisham, Earl Scruggs, and Doc Watson. Both are insanely talented and bring their own musical style when covering GD songs.
Regarding Billy & The Kids shows at Red Rocks and Hawaii. They were very very impressive. My friends who attended the "Dead on the Rocks" shows in person described it as a life changing event. The band consisted of a dozen members with just as many instruments. As long time Dead Heads, it brought them back to iconic jams they hadn't heard in 40+ years. The stars and moons definitely aligned for the Red Rocks concerts.
If you truly want to experience more iconic Grateful Dead music, go see Dark Star Orchestra LIVE as they have been doing it for decades. Whenever Bob gets that call from St. Peter
, I would like to see John Kadlecik take his place for the future GD cover band.

Do you think Weir is limiting Mayer moreso than Billy limits Strings? (none)

Yes. The tempos of Dead & Co are way to slooooowwwwwww........
....Weir's spoken word style of singing was cool for a couple of first set tunes in a typical Dead show but is tiresome for the entire set

He sounded great on electric w Kreutzman.
But the spacey bluegrass puts me to sleep.

Billy is faster than John. And even that’s debatable. John just doesn’t play that style so he doesn’t need speed. He is far superior as a guitarist. One has created licks that will live in the music lexicon for ages. One has not.

One has taken psychedelics and one has not. Makes a huge difference in the music.
Plus weir just brought mayer along so he could play in stadiums again and make bank.
