Pop music sucks. People who listen to it like shitty music.

I dont think i can do it better, i dont think anyone should do it at all.

Your right, its an opinion. But i'll say this, reasonable people can disagree about music in a lot of ways and that's healthy and cool, but I don't think i could respect someone's taste if they honestly felt Nickelback was as good or better than Coldplay.

And that is a respectable opinion to hold.

But to ostracize all opinion to the contrary, just because you value your opinion so highly. . .well that's what we call a douchebag. . .or a political pundit.

My position is that they are 2 different types of bands. They play 2 different types of music.

It would be like comparing Beach Boys to Black Sabbath.

I think Nickelback is very good at what they do. . .I just don't particularly like their music. I respect it, but do not prefer it.

I liked Coldplay early on, but have lost touch with them. They are good at what they do.

There is a place under the rock tent for both of them, just on different stages.

Their lyrics are pathetic, their rhythms are repetitive and simplistic, their songs all sound the same, when a band is boo'd off the stage multiple times in multiple countries their respect and talent as musicians is in serious question.
And yet they sell millions of records. Which means that there are millions of people who disagree with you.

I mean Nickelback is sort of to music what mullets are to haircuts. Sure, it's an "opinion" that people with mullets are an embarrassment to themselves. That said it's really not debated that it's a lower level of taste that prefers that look, except among people who have that haircut.

Yeah and if the difference in ability and catalogue between the two were even close then I would back you up, but in this situation it's so much of a blowout that you can just go ahead and look this over.

Ah, so you are stating that all opinion contrary to yours, regarding Nickelback, represents the lower level of opinion by default?

To be clear, I am not a fan of theirs, but that stance reeks of elitist snobbery.

How can you compare them? What metric are we using?

This isnt a matter of who likes which band better. If anybody on here knows a little about music, and they still think any person in nickelback (or hell the whole band for that matter) has as much talent as chris martin, banhammer. Immediately

I don't like to take that position but in this situation I have no choice. Nickelback is just. that. fricking. bad.

Dude

I can't even compare them in my mind. I think they both do what they do well.

Neither band tries to be what they are not, and that further muddies the comparison. There is just no crossover or overlap to draw from. . .

Maybe I just look at things a bit more objectively.

And, fwiw, I can't think of a single band that I "hate".

Just bands that I listen to, and those that I do not.

ETA: You aren't the first to get annoyed at my objectivity and even-handedness. It irks my wife to no end, during high profile court cases.

My wife is still pissed that I not convinced of Casey Anthony and Zimmerman's guilt.

I wasn't convinced with OJ until the bloody glove and Bruno shoes.

I am the most interesting juror in the world.
