I would say I prefer Coldplay to Nickelback, but they both play different types of music.

Why do people think a band is only talented if they enjoy their music?
Coldplay/Nickleback is doing something right. If it was that easy to become filthy rich by producing "horrible" music, why isn't everyone doing it?

Some on here take it a bit far, though.
The post that Breesus quoted shows what happens when people think they are the authority on a subject.
They think their opinion is definitive, when it is merely an opinion on a subjective topic. Comes across as douchebaggery, imo.

Objective fact: Nickleback is a terrible sham of a band. They have been boo'd off stages across the world and cities damn near protested the NFL hiring them for halftime shows.

Love them or hate them, Coldplay is a legitimate artistic band making creative music. While I'm personally not a big fan I recognize they have talent.
Nickleback is mass-marketed music meant for 12 year old girls.

You're right, its an opinion. But i'll say this, reasonable people can disagree about music in a lot of ways and that's healthy and cool, but I don't think i could respect someone's taste if they honestly felt Nickelback was as good or better than Coldplay.

We get it. You don't like pop music. Can you list all the bands you don't like so that I know which groups are talented?
Pop music isn't any different than its been for decades. People just like to hate on succesful people bc they think than can do it better. You can't.

Their lyrics are pathetic, their rhythms are repetitive and simplistic, their songs all sound the same, when a band is boo'd off the stage multiple times in multiple countries their respect and talent as musicians is in serious question.
