Probably my 2 favorites. Trucks is Trucks.

I feel like people underrate Frusciante because of RHCP. It isn't fair to judge him just by RHCP studio stuff because it doesn't really capture his sound. His solo work, Ataxia, and work with Omar Rodriguez is overlooked. Live with RHCP he was UNREAL. His other work is even better.

Also, I expect very few to know him, but Chris Letchford needs to be mentioned:

These guys are pretty awesome about posting instructional videos and play-throughs like that on youtube. Chris is the one in the grey and blue striped shirt. They are both extremely talented, though. Their bassist recently left the touring life and was replaced by a guy from the Shreveport area, Mark Michell, who is also a badass.

Absolutely. RHCP was like a straight jacket to his playing. Hell, look at the old blowups that Tony the Douche would have if John embellished a song at all. His solo work and session work (The Mars Volta, Warpaint) is damn good.

It also hurts him that he doesn't put a huge emphasis on long, winding solos. I get that most people associate technique with playing scales, but there is a lot more to it than that, and the fact that John would prefer to play with tone and unusual chords gets big props from me.

It's cool. Ian is one of the most underrated out there and is often left out of conversations like this.

He doesn't go heavy into the noodling, but when they perform live he definitely gets into some improv at the end of most of their songs. I agree with your statement though.

His new song Wayne is a perfect demonstration of his playing. It's just so emotive. When you mix that emotive playing with his voice, it's like magic. The Empyrean is a masterpiece.
