Fender Riffstation was one that I enjoyed. Appears they are taking it down to retool it and roll it into the Fender Play paid site content.

I signed up to ultimate guitar, but it is just the rolling tab over the words.

Can someone tell me how to better use UG or if there is another app that I shouldn't check out?

Can't be done. The blues are about suffering.

If you're just after learning his songs, nearly any tab site can help. But if you want to play and have the self discipline to push yourself, Hal Leornard has a ton of books that are phenomenal.

Here's what I do. I search on UG for the tab to a song that I want to learn. I download it to my computer. I might download one or two more because most of the time no single tab is 100% correct. If the tab is plain text I open it in a notepad window. Some of the better ones are in Guitar Pro or Power Tab format so you need something that can read those files. I use Tux Guitar.

Once you have the tab, listen to the song while reading along with the tablature. If you get lost, stop and start over or pick up from a point that you know. Do this a few times to get a feel for where the changes are, how the song is structured, etc. Then just take it piece by piece. Many songs have a structure to them like intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus, outro (just as an example). Once you learn the first verse, then you know all the verses except for little tweaks that they may have included. Same goes for the choruses. Start at a slow tempo and work your way up until you can play along with the music.

Also, some people struggle reading tablature. If you're one of those, try to find a video lesson on youtube. Here are a couple of examples of what I'm talking about:
Out in the Country
Kashmir

Oh yeah...Clapton

does your friend have a wife as hot as Pattie Boyd?

if so, maybe be Clapton without the guitar and just take the wife and heroin.
