B.B. King GOAT, no one even close
Hon. mention
Gregg Allman
John Hammond
Albert King
Freddie King
Buddy Guy
Mississippi Fred McDowell
Leadbelly
Female: no one has mentioned Janis Joplin yet. One of the best.

best would be e james, jl hooker or king ... prefer hooker myself ... billie holiday grew up and sang during the formation of blues music, so she gets my vote over aretha ... between her and hooker, i'd go holiday ... she oozes just about everything you need to hear/feel/smell in a blues singer ...

Gregg Allman. Had more soul in his voice than any white boy ive ever heard

Keep seeing Otis Redding aka "The King of SOUL"... not a blues singer IMO, like calling Jackie Wilson or Sam & Dave "blues"
For me it's
BB King
Buddy Guy
Freddie King
Howlin Wolf
Muddy Waters

No one has mentioned Ray Charles. Definitely ranks way up there when he sings blues.

Junior Wells also comes to mind for me
Here is a great clip of Buddy Guy from the late 60s
"First time I met the Blues"

Howlin' Wolf. That man just oozed the blues.
Probably my favorite along with Gregg Allman.

this may get scoffed at but John Belushi deserves to be in the conversation
