3. Viet Cong- Viet Cong

One of my hardest cuts. That album is great. It's been a really good year for music, and I was trying to make a pretty expansive list to cover a lot of genres, because every genre seemed to have a standout album. But Viet Cong is right up my alley. Also, Metz II is not as good as the debut, but still pretty great.

Yeah. It's good not great. I think people are forcing it. Speedy Ortiz is a lot better if you're trying to get your 90's indie fix

I loved Speedy Ortiz's first album, but I feel about the new one kind of how you feel about Hop Along. Maybe I should give it another listen.

This isn't really my "favorite 25 songs of the year," and it's not the "best albums of 2015," but...

Here's a Spotify playlist of my 25Picks from 2015

When making the playlist, I tried to think of favorite releases from the year, and I decided to NOT use more than one song per artist.

It did take me a full year to finally like Parquet Courts, so it could be me. I can be a slow adopter.

I find that surprising. The first time I heard Parquet Courts, I thought they were made specifically for you.

Thanks man! Yeah, definitely check out Title Fight. Highly highly recommend it. Hogfly knows what he's talking about!

I've got a long drive to New Orleans this afternoon, so I'm going to check out Hop Along. Also can't believe I haven't listened to El Vy yet. That's Matt Berringer + one of the dudes from Menomena, right? I've always enjoyed that branch of music... Menomena, Ramona Falls, etc.

Have you listened to that Hop Along album I and a few others were talking about? I think it would be right up your alley.

I really liked this album, just got on it recently. How was their first album from a few years back?

ETA: Kurt Vile's Believe I'm Goin Down was my favorite album.

Yep. Him and Brent Knopf, who was in Menomena, then left to start El Vy.
It's not Boxer or anything, but I can't imagine any fans of The National and Menomena/Ramona Falls not enjoying it.

Yeah, I don't know why it didn't grab me at first. But I owned the record and I just kept putting it on when I was cooking dinner and one day... BOOM. I realized I loved it.

I tend to agree, but new album is pretty good.

It would have been in my next ten. With a few more listens, it may have even cracked in the top ten. I am a big fan of about half the songs, while the other half don't do anything for me.

the thing with the grimes is it just came out. I do love it, but always hard to rate an album in the top until I listen to it 10 times.
