That's how they started their career. Please Please Me came along a few years after they initially got together. One of their biggest hits, Twist and Shout, was a cover of an Isley Bros. cover.

If I recall correctly their live on the BBC compilation has several covers

The Beatles actually improved the girl-group songs Baby It's You, Boys and Please Mr Postman.

The BEATLES were the best

Their cover of the Broadway tune "Til There Was You" is sublime - even moreso the live version on Anthology.

McCartney heard it from the UK Peggy Lee version and didn’t even know it was in Music Man.
