"Butthole Surfers" is not subtle. It's abusive slang for gays. Which is why it is arguably the most punk rock name for a band ever. The bandname was banned from some radio stations. It's a perfect name for that band.

Oh & The Beatles...... I know they might be the greatest thing since sliced bread but wtf were they thinking calling themselves this? And they hadn't even met Bob Dylan yet who introduced them to pot & acid. They came up with that lame name sober....

10,000 Maniacs--they could have been so much bigger if they had a better name. Natalie Merchant's voice is as smooth as silk, but that name kept a lot of potential fans away.
