I would never consider KoL as alt-country. As for the vocals, I feel that's kind of what helped define them in the early days. Very distinctive, not polished.

are you implying that KoL were alt country?

Aha is a top 10 album for me. Soft ftw

I even liked Only By The Night- certainly not their best, but there were some good songs.

Sundown....one listen and haven't ever thought of giving it another shot

Hopefully they can do something at least interesting with the new record.

I think the first time I heard them was on Craig Kilborn's show. Still my favorite KoL song:

Spiral Staircase

I really mean it when I say they are a different band now. I don't even think they are capable of making a song like this anymore. This isn't alt-country, this is cowpunk filtered through AC/DC.

Youth and Young Manhood is such a good album.

They were such a good raw rock and roll band.

They are completely different now unfortunately

Everything else, while good, is not even close. Aha Shake is one of the most complete albums I've ever heard and would be in my top 5 of "if stuck on an island" list (Black Keys "Rubber Factory" would be on there, as well).

Everyone notice that KoL's album titles are all 5 syllables long?

Anyways, KoL's B-Sides around the ASHB and Y&YM time are great enough to be on their own album.

I'm holding on to hope.

there was so much hype around the strokes, kings of leon, and even interpol at the time. they each came out with a bang, got great press, built pretty big followings, released follow-ups that built nicely on their debuts, and then shouldve stopped.

I think Interpol hasn't missed a beat...out of those three bands they've really stayed the closest to their debut album, IMHO.

i def agree, but i havent been as into their last two as much as the first two. but yeah, their third, or "swinging for the fences" album, wasnt nearly as jarring as either the strokes and kings of leon.
