Sad thing is that I have another room that would be much better for the system but am dealing with some WAF factors that are making me put those in a small "party house" we have on the property. I'm going to see if i can win the interior decorating battle before I do room treatments. This will probably come down to giving her what she really wants -- additions to the house. If I get a dedicated listening room out of it, I may have to concede.
There are very few problems in life that can't be solved by throwing more money at it.
I've got a bubby that has done some infinite baffle designs with Fostex. You get a lot of bang for your buck for sure. He thought his were great until he heard the Quattros that I built from Troel's website. Same detail but sound is more full with greater bass extension.
On the ATS4-HE, there is a 12" sub firing downward out of each speaker. The Hypex plate amp allows you the hook up a computer to each plate amp to model the response to your needs/listening environment. Troels has already given me some suggested Hypex changes based upon current set up/room. I think I'm going to have to determine where they end up and then go from there. Aural nirvana is always just one step away.
They have some Voxativ drivers on Audiogon right now. Guess I could go rob a bank.

Is anyone by chance in Dallas and knows someone who can repair my turntable?

No offense taken. See reply to Marco.

Hey guys, just getting into records.
So, asking for you help, since there are people on this board that are light-years ahead of me with their knowledge of this kind of stuff. I wanted advice on what the weak spot on my setup was (if I was gonna upgrade something later)
My setup
Audio-Technica AT LP-120
Focal Aria bookshelf speakers w/ Focal stand
Focal Cub Evo 8 inch powered woofer
Cambridge Solo preamp
Yamaha AS501 amplifier
I just ordered an Ortofon 2m blue cartridge which I’m hoping will open up up the soundstage. Anybody have experience with this cartridge?

I may get in trouble hear but here goes.
What's the room like? How are the speakers positioned? Have you messed around with positioning? Opening up the soundstage and getting that big beautiful sound is much more about the room and how the speakers are placed in the room and interact with the room is the number one thing in my book to get a proper soundstage.

Average apartment sized living room. Sofa directly across from speakers (about 12-15 feet) Speakers are about 15 feet apart. Subwoofer in the middle
Starting to break in the Ortofon blue tonight. I’m impressed so far. Much better instrument separation

How far from the back wall? Speakers need room behind them and every speaker is different. I have to have my Dynaudio's at least 3-4' from the wall behind them.

Couple of inches like a noob! I found a subreddit that was really helpful
Sorry for all the stupid questions! Should have done more research before I posted
Thanks!

You're good man. We're all here to help.
ETA: Aria 906? Front ported so that's a help. According to Focal you have them spaced way too wide apart and you're sitting too far back. They recommend about 8' away from the speakers which means they should also be about 8' apart according to the manual. You also have to get them off of that back wall. That placement does nothing good for the sound. Bookshelp speakers generally require tighter spacing. Look at Marco's last image.
ETA: Here's a link to the manual for my speakers. Dynaudio goes into much more depth regarding speaker placement and the effects of the room of the soundstage than Focal does in their manual. You might find it helpful. Dynaudio Special Forty Manual

Here’s something I’ve been working on, this is my first time dealing with any of this stuff so I have no idea what is/isn’t good stuff, it’s been a fun project though. I picked up this cabinet tonight to hold everything.
My dad has had these Bose 901 Series IV and components for as a long as I can remember, and for as long as I can remember they’ve never worked. After looking at them for my entire 31 years I decided a few months ago to see if I can get them working again.
I deleted the after pic but the foam surrounds were completely gone in both sets. Cleaned them up, removed the old foam and installed new surrounds, the entire kit was $40 and took an hour or so per 901. I used some wood conditioner on the cabinets and you can see in the pics how much nicer they look now.
The turntable he had was thrown out years ago, I believe it was stepped on and broke or something along those lines. I picked up a Kenwood KD-5070 for $40 locally, I feel that was a steal.
Album collection is growing, I bought Gary Clark Jr Live, Nathaniel Rateliff Tearing at the Seams, and Leon Bridges Coming Home to start with. Then a few weeks ago bought a lot of about 100 classic rock albums, the guys dad had passed away and he had no interest in them. I’ve been sorting through them, cleaning them, etc. Fleetwood Mac, Allman Brothers, CCR, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, etc.
It’s been a fun little project and went from something I was just tinkering with and would maybe make a shop stereo to setting it up in my living room, starting an album collection, and I’ll come home after work and throw one on and give it a listen.
The full setup:
Bose 901 Series IV
Bose Active Equalizer
Harmon/Kardon PM660
Harmon/Kardon TU615 tuner
Sony TC-K60 cassette deck(not pictured/hooked up, it ate a tape when I tested it)
Only other thing I want to do is add a set of the Bose chrome tulip stands soon, seems Bose no longer makes them and when I was rebuilding the speakers there was 4 or 5 sets on eBay. Now that I’m ready to buy I haven’t seen a set pop up again.

Interesting project. You are close to having a nice vintage set up. Those are speakers that made Bose. Used to have some hanging from the ceiling in the frat house and they got LOUD.
You have to get them away from the walls and floors or you will have issues with bass control/standing waves.
Have you thought about getting the old amps recapped? That would be another interesting project for you that. Would likely improve sound quality as well.

You took something that was in terrible condition that 99.9% of people would have trashed, and gave it a new life with some TLC...good on you man!
...and you have a great story to tell when people visit.
Welcome to the thread...keep posting your progress and nightly jams!

Looks great. Well done on the restoration!

Nicely done!
I agree with dunkelman about speaker positioning. You couldn't have them in a worse place in a room. 901's need space around them.
Here's a link to the manual with speaker placement guidelines.

The only other available wall I'd have free would position each one right in front of a window which I'd imagine wouldn't be good for sound quality, right? Once I get the stands I'm going to play with the positioning, I know from reading a bit they need to be up off the floor and a bit away from the wall, certain distance apart, etc. They are indeed pretty damn loud though.
Hadn't thought about messing with any of the components but I'll look into it and see what's involved.
A bunch of those older albums I bought are a bit crackly, I've cleaned them with some solution and a brush but will probably try the wood glue trick soon.

They have rear drivers so it's imperative to get them off of the wall. Raising the speaker height is also a priority.
I'll admit that I'm no fan of Bose and their marketing gimmicks but it's really cool that you took a vintage speaker and did the restoration. Kudos to you.
