Yep. Just a game. A game that we love and universities we love but at the end of the day, just a game. And yes, it takes a certain age for most to gain that perspective. Quite a few years ago for me.

Does anyone in the group have or had the opportunity to listen to mag 1.7s
I've been trying to listen to a bunch of different speakers, and I can't find a dealer near me but I have heard they are great especially for the price as long as you have juice pushed into them

Marco has some mags... not 100% if they are the 1.7s. They were definitely an option for me when I got the Vandys. They do need some power and I think can be a little light on the low end. May have been the .7s I was looking at.....

Check out the dimensions before you get dead set on them, it’s what made me go a different way. Think they were damn near as tall as the wife.

Did you see what I asked a few post up?

Trying to figure out something to do and or hang in the doorway to my hall. It’s near where my left speaker is and I realized the other day that I’m not getting much low end from it. Definitely, not nearly what I’m getting out of the other speaker which has a wall behind it. I’m assuming not being able to close that doorway is the reason I’m not getting as much low end since the back of the speaker faces the doorway. It’s the same spacing behind both speakers.... just one side has a solid wall and the other has a doorway I can’t close.

Ideas on something to do? I mean I could put a door, but that may require more than I want to get into. Thought pocket door... but that looks pretty in depth as well.

Any other ideas?

I've seen some pictures where people have built small false walls, not sure if that's exactly what your looking for but a bunch of pictures online

I actually didn’t see your post...

But, for an answer—corners always accentuate or amplify bass. The bass wave will bounce off the rear wall and then “ride” down the side wall all the while growing as it travels down the wall. Want proof...go stand in front of the speaker right next to the wall (shoulder against the side wall). Notice the bass. Now do the same 8’ down that same wall...the bass will seem twice as strong.

Not having a side wall or having an opening will not allow that wave to develop, thus creating the void you hear (or don’t hear in this case). A tapestry or curtain will not really help as it will absorb the wave—you need something solid like drywall or a wood panel.

Maybe even create a large wooden frame (maybe 4’x8’) made of 1”x2” wood with a heavy canvas pulled taut (think art shop here) that is light enough to move easily. You could even paint it with some artsy-fartsy stuff. There are some graphics shops that can actually put a cool music image or a classic album cover artwork on the canvas before you put it on the frame.

My good friend that did the Phish and Dead metal plates can do this—then all you do is staple it to the wood frame you built—just like an artist does with a painting, just bigger.

A good hi-Rez image can be done, and they can look stunning if done properly.

Something along the lines of this, but with just about any image you could imagine...

If this interests you, my friend is here in Metry, and he owns a large graphics shop that can easily accomplish this...can even build the frame and assemble the entire thing.

I love that idea Marco... only problem is that doorway leads to the bathrooms and bedrooms. May be a pain to constantly move it around to get to the back of the house. I’ll piss outside, but the ladies are not so keen on that.

May just have to get a pocket door....
Or maybe a sliding barn door....

So doc and a few others what's your opinion on the Odyssey amps? Do any of you guys have the monos and pick up his pre amp?
I've just purchased a few things I'll post when it all comes in.. Still going back and forth with preamp he's trying to push me towards a loaded candela which would make the price go down but I'm not sure if I want to purchase a separate dac or not. His hours are crazy haha I've talked to him a few times around midnight

Was thinking about this earlier Marco after that last convo....
I’ve pretty much made the decision to make a move sometime this year (hopefully) to moving up the VIP line a bit. Hopefully, i can find an older Scout (acrylic platter) per your suggestion and then go from there on a cart.

I’ll need to get a phono preamp. I know you have recommended the lehmann black cube, but is that what I should be starting to look and shop for? It’s not something I really needed to look into before due to Nomad having the phono built in.

Yeh... been staring at that for a few days now. Waiting on the quote to fix the shite on my roof and my chimney...

Not sure what that’s going to be....

would the lehmann black cube be good as a phono or should I look at something else along those lines. Don’t have one currently due to the nomad’s built in pre.

I used a VPI Scoutmaster with a Lyra Titan i cartridge running through a BlackCube for a couple years...yes, it’s that good. Dead quiet, accurate, and German quality.
