Didn't say Astronomy Domine was their best song. I said if I was old enough to be following Pink Floyd since day one, I might've viewed the debut album differently than I do now...but my first exposure to the band was Animals and DSOTM, so my expectations were closer to what the band was doing by then..

I believe Sing the Greys is considered their debut, but I definitely agree Modern Leper is their best song. And one of the best songs of the 00s overall.

Is this it by the strokes is pretty damn strong (ignoring the first EP).
The Shining by Badly Drawn Boy deserves consideration.
Brown Eyed Girl was the first song on Van Morrison's offical first solo album I think. Not my favorite song of his but certainly pretty damn good.
