Anyone Create SynthPop Music? What Kind of Setup Do You Use?

I've been inspired by many of the electronic-pop bands out now--Passion Pit, Empire of the Sun, Chvrches, Royksopp, Metric, Monarchy, Two Door Cinema Club, Moby, etc.
I'm interested in dabbling musically in that genre. For any of you who have experience playing such music, what kind of equipment/set are you using?
I've played in alt-rock bands in the past. Played bass in several bands, have an electric guitar, and can keep a beat on a drumset.
TIA

Back in the day, as in '87, I used Roland 808 and a Yamaha DX7.
But you'd also be surprised what you could do with a Hammond Organ.

I think even that might be a little lo-fi for me.
I'm assuming that a lot of one comes out now is put together on an iMac and Garageband (or similar software)?

It's old as hell and some will probably laugh but it still sounds great. I have taken great care of it. I have 4 expansion sound card in it (dance/techno/drum and bass/hip hop). Still use the onboard sequencer and yes that's a disk drive to store my songs
It's certainly obsolete since the Fantom and X series workstations but if it's good enough for New Order to use in their live set then it's good enough for me. It's been great for a dabblign musician like me over the years and it's inspired my young kinds to want to take piano lessons which I regret never doing.
In it's day it was a beast!

Have you created any synth pop yet? Anything up on Sound Cloud or anywhere?
I'm dabbling in that now, but I really need a good vocalist. Very hard to find!

Try the Roland Juno 60 keyboard

That's funny, I have both the JP8000 and the Juno60!

I always wanted one of those. I currently work with the Ensoniq ASR-10 keyboard

The Juno 60 is phat. Analog :)
ASR-10, nice. Seems like a lot of Hip Hop cats are using those for beats.
Someone just gave me a NI Maschine. I need to sit down and figure it out!

Sweet bump!
I haven't had much free time on my hands lately what with work and school. I have played around with Mixcraft 6 a bit, though, and threw down some one-take song song bit ideas.
Bought a used M-Audio MIDI keyboard, and I'm considering buying a used bass to go with my electric guitar this weekend. I'm scrimping on the equipment right now because I'm not yet sure how this little musical experiment is going to go, and I figure if you're going to be good, then you'll be good on any piece of equipment--cheap or expensive.
So, right now, my studio setup includes a cheap Peavy electric guitar, M-Audio MIDI keyboard, Mixcraft6 (unregistered), acoustic Yamaha guitar, and hopefully this weekend a used bass.
Also reconnected with my old guitarist friend, whom I played in a band with during my high school and college days. We've tentatively decided to collaborate cross country using Mixcraft. We may have to worry about finding a vocalist, but that will be down the road a bit, once we've gelled making music again--especially a new style of music. I may even give vocals a try.
I have a few musical ideas saved to Soundcloud. Give me your email address and I'll send you the links. I don't want to make them public yet--however raw and crummy they may be.
