Took the wife to see Brian Setzer at Beau Rivage over the weekend. Not a huge Brian Setzer fan, though I kind of liked his couple Stray Cats hits back in the old MTV days and enjoyed the brief return of swing music when he remade "Jump Jive and Wail." I really just went because my wife and kid won't go see TSO anymore, and I wanted to get into the Christmas spirit so I forced the wife to go see BSO.

Excellent concert. He had his rockabilly trio plus piano, a couple backup singers, and a 14-piece horn section. Great variety of rockabilly, swing, and rock-Christmas music. Played with the full band for a while, then did some rockabilly stuff with just the trio. I really liked the stand-up bass. They did a phenomenal swing version of the Nutcracker Suite at the end. Anyone who hasn't heard it should go to youtube and give it a listen. Setzer is a phenomenal guitar player - I really left with a much greater appreciation of his musicianship. Great concert - I'll be back if they return next year.

Glad you enjoyed the show.

Setzer's a rockabilly god. Love him.

Saw the Stray Cats in their heyday, not knowing how good of a guitarist Setzer was. He had a little solo showcase where he just shredded. Dude has some serious chops.

My best friend got upgraded to first class on a cross-country flight a few years back, and found that his seat mate was Setzer. Guess what - he's a helluva great guy too, friendly and very down to earth.

They spent the entire flight slamming Irish whiskeys, laughing a lot and flirting with the flight attendants.

We were there. Solid show. I grew up on heavy doses of rock & roll and big band swing. This show combined the best of both. The "snow" at the end was a nice touch, also.

Saw him in Nashville in 1999. He opened for Bob Dylan. In my opinion he blew Dylan out of the building. Would love to see him again.

Yeah I loved the mix of music despite it being genres I don’t normally listen to (I’m more of a ‘80s hair metal and ‘90s speed metal guy). I was able to get the wife there because it was a Christmas concert, but I’m glad that most of the show wasn’t Christmas music.

I saw him at the House of Blues in New Orleans. It wasn't the Christmas Show but the "Dirty Boogie" tour with his big band.

Hard to believe that was 1998. GREAT SHOW.

Yeah I had several classes with Chris and Vernel while I was at LSU. Was good friends with Geert and some of the other guys as well. Does show my youth.
