I was in high school at the same time. Loved CS&N self titled album, CSN&Y Deja Vu, Stephen Stills' first two albums, the Beatles' last two albums, and Green River and Cosmo's Factory by Creedence.

The period of 1968-1971 were the halcyon days of rock and roll, and popular music in general.

Halcyon days period. My college years. Come to think of it, my high school/college years, 1964-1972, were perhaps the best years in American history to be young. I even missed the draft.

Some bands the OP missed:
The Byrds
Buffalo Springfield
The Mothers
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Big Brother
The Groundhogs
Jefferson Airplane
Blue Cheer
Traffic

Beaker St.: young kid in rural, central Louisisna. Laying in bed in a dark room with headphones on listening to the slow talking Clyde Clifford. Sound effects in the background.

I think of: James Gang-Stop, Steppenwolf-Monster, It's a Beautiful Day-White Bird, Trapeze-Black Cloud, Bloodrock-Melvin Laid an Egg, Iron Butterfly-NewDay, Uriah Heep-The Wizard
