If you're determined to add a live VH album to your collection, do a Google search for "Van Halen Civic Pride" and find and secure a copy of that bootleg concert performance. High quality off-the-board recording, October 1977, Pasadena Civic Center. Between-song banter makes reference to their recently signing a record deal and the upcoming release of their first record.

It truly captures VH's live magic, down to DLR's drunken slurryness, players' playing hiccups and out of key vocals thanks to stage theatrics mixed with party favors and a weak monitor mix, Eddie's wireless acting up intermittently at the intro of "Atomic Punk" ...

Don't take that as me being an overly-critical prick, read it as being raw, unedited and in your face. I LOVE this record because you can clearly hear why WB and TT fell in love with the band and busted their arse in the studios to truly capture their live sound and their live fire. It sounds like the dress rehearsal that went down the night prior to the VHI recording sessions.

Speaking of which, this bootleg also circulates under the name "Atomic Punks"
