I'll start. I'm 51. Today I was listening Every kinda people and happened to glance down and see its Robert Palmer.
How did I not know this? I just assumed it was a soul singer like Marvin Gaye.

For the longest time, I thought Last Train to Clarkesville was a Beatles song.

Kind of applicable but I really used to respect and like Billy Joel until the day I learned he's the one responsible for "We Didn't Start the Fire"

For years I was absolutely sure that "Hard Luck Woman" by Kiss was a Rod Stewart song.

on a related note, i once thought i heard a DJ on FM102 in monroe say that 'boogie nights' was by KISS and for YEARS i was like WTF is the deal with that one song.
i thought KISS sang that song for decades after that.

I always thought "I Can't Tell You Why" was sung by a chick.
Not until I saw The Eagles in concert a few years ago did I find out it was sung by their bassist Timothy B. Schmidt.

I had no idea until last week that Once Bitten Twice Shy was a cover by Great White.

Mott the Hoople did it first. Mick Ralphs took it with him to Bad Company after he left Mott.
Both versions are great, I lean towards Mott's version.
^^^^For the 'Ready for Love' poster above.

Any toad the wet sprocket song
No one seems to ever know who sings these or their songs. Non-music people, I mean.

They were such a great band in concert but, like the Doors, their stuff didn't translate as well to the top 40 radio format.

My dad thought the Bee Gees was a group of black women until we saw them on TV. He was shocked,
