I'm a fan. Solid effort. Cannot wait for the new album in early 2018.

Maynard is a nut. He ever comes through my neck of the woods again, Tool or APC, I'll be going to see it.

I like the song, but the fans want TOOL. Everything else at this point is just a tease

I like it too. Sounds just like you want APC to sound.

NEVER going to happen. I’ve given up all hope of ever getting new music from TOOL.

I think Maynard just likes fricking with fans whenever he teases that something TOOL related might happen.

I've been reading stuff like this for days, and it boggles my mind how people believe some of the stuff they do.

He made a lot of news last year when he said it's up to the other guys to finish the music before he can write words for it.

It's by and large Adam Jones that does most of the teasing, like that bullshite a few weeks back.

Or Puscifer. Any of the three are great live.

Band's name is the same as my sig name; purely unintentional on my part. My sig name is from one of my favorite REM songs. Anyway, listened to the song provided by the link.

Are these guys Satanists? Seriously, those lyrics are, for me, disturbing. I actually felt a dark weight in the atmosphere around me when I started listening to the video.

How would you guys classify this kind of music?

I think that Maynard just thinks it's cool to mock and make fun of Christianity, like about half the population these days.

Well, the eponymous song off Tool's first EP in 92 was a watershed in lampooning that shitty religion.

quote:

Choices always were a problem for you. What you need is someone strong to guide you.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow, what you need is someone strong to use you.. like me, like me.
If you want to get your soul to heaven, trust in me .Don't judge or question. You are broken now, but faith can heal you.
Just do everything I tell you to do.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow. Let me lay my holy hand upon you.
My Gods will becomes me.
When he speaks out, he speaks through me. He has needs like I do.
We both want to rape you.
Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my life.
Open my eyes and blind me with your light and your lies.

I see you're one of the cool kids. So much more intelligent than any of those stupid Christians.

I think you missed the mark on the song. It is a reflection of how the values in the Sermon on the Mount have been largely flipped on their heads in modern society. It is not a condemnation of Christianity but a jaded observation of society's current value system.

THE EIGHT BEATITUDES OF JESUS

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Gospel of St. Matthew 5:3-10

The last verse of the lyrics sum it up.

Doomed are the poor
Doomed are the peaceful
Doomed are the meek
Doomed are the merciful
For the word is now death
And the word is now without light
The new beatitude:
"frick the doomed, you're on your own"

Right. Maynard uses a lot of Christian imagery in his songs that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the Christian religion. A ton of his stuff employs aspects of Christianity or sex as extended metaphors for larger issues.

It can be shocking, but it can also be pretty brilliant. "Prison Sex" and "Stinkfist" come to mind off of the top of my head.

I admit that's the first Perfect Circle song I've ever heard, and that I don't know anything about them.
Didn't even know there was a band by this name until I saw the thread title.
Still, apparently not all PC /Tool/Maynard fans take his lyrics figuratively. Sayre takes them literally.
It's cool. To each his own.

Nah, I just see thing for how they are.

It's not like I'm one of those Christians that are always trying to tell you the Bible doesn't say what exactly how it reads on the page. That there's some other, deeper meaning.

That's just a crock of shite for the deluded to hang on to.

But you still have to take each song on it's own.

Opiate doesn't quibble around.

But then, 'Think For Yourself/Question Authority', the mantra of Third Eye, is all you need to know about what MJK is trying to say.

Did he mince words on this, the first single ever released by A Perfect Circle way back in 2000? And he's speaking to his mother, Judith, no less.

Judith

You're such an inspiration for the ways
That I'll never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How the savior has abandoned you
frick your God
Your Lord and your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, you never stray
Never taste of the fruit
You never thought to question why

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you
He did it all for you

Oh so many many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you
Pray to your Christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break
Never---choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who did this to you
You never thought to question why

Not like you killed someone
It's Not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ
As if he knows the reasons why
He did it all for you
Did it all for you
He did it all for you..

Every time I see them in concert, I turn around and watch the crowd when they these lines are sung. It's mind blowing to see thousands of people yell "frick YOUR GOD, YOUR LORD, YOUR CHRIST" Especially since so many people in this region are mindless followers of that bullshite.

And the 'Wings For Marie/10,000 Days' suite off their last album is another side of the story. Marie being 'Judith Marie', his mother. He still has contempt for it (the 'ignorant fibbers in the congregation'), but he seems to have a broader point of view about the whole thing

You can watch the evolution of his thought process pretty easily over the years.
