Bands that don't belong in the "underrated" category but somehow made the list in OP-

Fugazi
Ween
Pavement
Swervedriver
Lemonheads

All of those bands were and are highly rated.

I’d say you missed the most obvious one
“Screaming Trees”
I added in Somewhat to the title for this purpose.

Rock fans, let's rewind to the 1990s - a decade dominated by grunge and alt-rock giants, but also packed with hidden gems that never hit mainstream superstardom. These underrated bands carved out unique sounds, blending shoegaze, post-rock, indie, and experimental edges. X Here's a 30-band lineup paired with one standout track each — perfect for rediscovering the underground side of the '90s!

I only know about half of them.

The Lemonheads were fairly mainstream. They had 4 or 5 tunes that were in regular rotation.

My music service know I love the Lemonheads. Songs I am getting regularly:
The Outdoor Type
Alison's Starting to happen
If I could Talk I'd Tell You
Into Your Arms
Rudderless
Confetti
Rockin Stroll
Kitchen

I think the most underappreciated band of the 90s is The Old 97's. Placed in alt. country, their more pop/rock stuff just doesn't get heard.

Every kid in my HS in the 90's had these records and T-shirts, they were played often on the radio and MTV (except for Ween, they weren't a radio/MTV type of music) so I'd still disagree with you.

I would have to strongly disagree with you sir

Early 90’s for sure and straight through the decade
only a small group of kids probably knew of these bands even The Lemonheads. Maybe they knew of one song cuz of the radio. But honestly a large amount of kids hardly knew of even The Smashing Pumpkins. (Radio songs only). Only music oriented kids found the good stuff.
