I heard it on the radio on the way to work. I admittedly was not a huge Bowie fan at the time. It's not that I didn't like his music...it's just that I never really explored it...but hearing the news still caused me more sadness than hearing of any other artist's passing that I can remember. I don't know why I had this reaction, but at that point, I started listening to his work. I realized I had been missing out on some of the best music ever made for all my life. For the last two years I've been exploring his work, and it still has not been enough time to give everything a good thorough listening. But, in that, I think my favorite from the start and still remains Ziggy. My other favorites include Hunky Dory, Young Americans, Scary Monsters, Station to Station, and Blackstar. I like bits and pieces from his other albums, but have a hard time sitting through all the songs, especially on his albums post 1990 (exception - Blackstar).

Blackstar is one of his most interesting albums to me, given the context and just the music is very unique in his catalog of work.

Anyway, here's to Bowie. May he RIP.

Didn't lose anything unless you knew him in person.

He'd already put out a plethora of work that spins on.

Actually, since you weren't a fan..you gained something from his death.

I do like Changes, Ziggy and Space Oddity.

My favorite compositions of his are Under Pressure (which he co-wrote and recorded with Queen) and All the Young Dudes (which he wrote for Mott the Hoople.)

Life on Mars is one of my favorite Bowie songs. Rick Wakeman does a great tribute to Bowie talking about this song, how Bowie wrote, and playing it solo here.

The media monkeys and their junket junkies will invite you to the plastic pantomime.

Throw their invites away.

Just three or four days ago I visited the bar featured in the "Let's Dance" video in the Australian Outback. It was January 8 in Australia...just two days before the anniversary.

One of my favorite songs period. Bowie's story about how the melody came to him and he ran back to the apartment before he forgot it is great.
