I'm guessing it's allowed to discuss musical instruments on the "music" board...

I have a 1952 Martin D-18. Bought it from the original owner who just prior to my buying it, sent it to Martin for a neck reset.
Guitar is in terrific shape for it's age, sounds great, plays great....has a nice vintage (woody) tone.

Just curious is anyone on here is familiar with vintage instruments and can give me an idea of the value.

I've seen natural ones going for upwards of $5,000.00. Very nice vintage...do you have any pics?

On this board that’s like a OT hot woman thread without pics. I should downvote. Lol

I bet $5000 is about right. Not pre war and never used rosewood so can’t be Brazilian rosewood. None of the things needed to add another digit to a price/value.

I've maybe been to this board twice because it seems like a dick-measuring contest on who likes most obscure music ever...and that's fine. But I decided to come today and see if there were any acoustic guys in here and what they played.

Lo and behold, an acoustic guitar thread was at the top when I clicked in.

Unless you can transpose Celtic music to your acoustic guitar, I have no interest. Lol

Btw. OP, Reverb has 1952 D-18s right now.

One is $5000

Another in excellent condition is 6250

Taylor

I gig with a 2003 710ce. I also have a 2015 816ce Wildwood. It won't ever see the inside of a bar. The practice guitar is a Takamine EG360SC. My first (that I still have) is an Ovation Celebrity I bought in '88. Got it signed by Steve Wariner when we opened for him back in the early 90's.

I have a friend with a Blue Ridge. It's got that great dreadnought big-body sound to it man.

I held one of those in a shop in Houston. I would have to wear microfiber clothes. I’d hate to scuff the back

No problem. Everything Celtic is in DADGAD.

I hate to jack the OP's thread. But...I have a Taylor 612ce that's my main fingerstyle guitar and a mid-80s Alvarez-Yairi DY-59 dreadnought in Brazilian rosewood that's more for strumming.

They only made 21 of them. I have #2. Bought it used from an older gentleman who bought it to play in church. He said he's selling it because he was too scared to scratch it...lol.

It's got Adirondack bracing by Andy Powers and projects like you wouldn't believe. I put it in my sig pic.

What year is the 612? They redesigned them in 2016 (I think).

Reverb's price guide indicates recent transactions have been in the $5K-6500 range. I didn't look but use "advanced search" on eBay to see any recent auctions that went full term and what the comparable instrument went for. You want to see what they actually went for, not what people might be seeking for them. I can "ask" $50,000 for my 50s LP Junior, in case some guy out there is willing to pay that much over market for it.

Overall condition and originality are huge factors in the vintage/collectible guitar market. A neck reset to hardcore collectors can be a tirekicking point, but a Martin-done neck reset is an asset IMHO, in that the manufacturer actually did the work and the guitar was likely very hard to play possibly unplayable without the work being done. Now it is both collectible vintage AND a functional tool, the latter being what made them desirable in the first place.

Sounds like you have a really, really sweet piece!

Mine is the re-voiced version made in whatever year they did that (I think it was 2016 also). Normally I'm not a big fan of maple bodies (too bright) but Andy did a good job. It's well-balanced and perfect for fingerstyle.

Great point. I hadn't done that either.

Just got very lucky to be the first one to come across it for sale.
