So I’m watching Zero Dark Thirty for about the fifth time and I’m at the part when the head of the CIA (Gandolfini) sits down at the lunch table with Maya. He asks her how long she has been with the CIA and she says for twelve years and she was recruited out of high school. He asks her, “You know why we did that?” She replied something like, “I don’t think I can answer that.” Just curious why did they recruit her exactly out of high school? Im sure she was the top of her class but is there a reason I’m missing here?

Undergraduate Scholar Program.

Not sure why they treated it like a secret. It’s still used today.

Apparently the real analyst, who also had red hair, actually talked and acted like that.

Yeah, I also have it on pretty good authority that she was/is difficult to work with.

She was so good in that role

JC was fighting so hard for people to listen to her and believe her and she knew deep down she was right

Can’t speak on why she was recruited out of high school, but I always assumed the reason she couldn’t talk about it was because they were in a public area, and whatever the answer is, it’s classified (or at the very least need to know).

I found this article Newsmax

quote:

Throughout blogs and message boards, viewers are discussing whether the agency really does enlist teens to their ranks. The answer is yes and no. According to the CIA’s website, high school students are eligible to be a part of the agency through the Undergraduate Scholar Program, where students are given $18,000 per year for tuition, fees, books, and supplies. During their summers in college, they’ll work at headquarters using skills they excel in. After graduation, the students will work for the agency for a period of 1.5 times the period they were a part of the program.

And there’s this gem:

quote:

A former official said that when an email of the award announcement, as well as other awards going to others, was sent out, she replied to all saying, “You guys tried to obstruct me. You fought me. Only I deserve the award.”
