Will The CW Be a Streaming Wars Casualty?
quote:
If Nexstar seals a deal for a majority stake in the WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS broadcaster, insiders speculate the programming strategy may shift toward politics and reruns.
quote:
For ViacomCBS and WarnerMedia, the deal would give them much-needed cash that they could use to invest in their owned streaming services Paramount+ and HBO Max (both companies have been divesting “noncore” assets over the past few years for that reason), and multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that any deal is likely to include a programming agreement that would see a Nexstar-controlled CW committed to buy programming from their respective TV studios.
quote:
But for The CW, it also raises serious questions and concerns about the future of its programming lineup and strategy as well as its digital ambitions. Even if Nexstar wants to have a broadcast network with entertainment programming, there is no guarantee that it ends up pursuing the same year-round originals programming strategy Pedowitz has crafted over the past few years.
So even if a Nexstar-controlled CW were obligated to buy programming from Warners and CBS Studios, there is no obvious reason that it couldn’t change the programming strategy and simply lean on those studios to develop a new content pipeline.

The CW was killed by Greg Berlanti’s terrible show-running

I think the CW was a CW casualty.

I know it's a smaller network, but it's still a network. It would be pretty crazy to see a network go under.
We definitely don't need another political channel.

If by streaming wars casualty they mean nobody wants to stream any of their shite SJW shows, then yes it will be.

My son's currently watching Arrow for the first time and he started season 4 this week. So much PTSD from them ruining that show with Felicity instead of focusing on Laurel.
CW can rot in hell.

Seasons 1-4 of Arrow never forget.

They decided to focus more on serving the teen girl fanbase than telling a compelling story.
If they lose the DC shows, I don't know how much content they're going to have left.

Riverdale and (VASTLY underrated) Nancy Drew

I think that's giving them too much credit. Like they made a good show for someone. Just not us.
bullshite. The OC was made for teen girls and I loved it too.
Berlanti's and crews are hacks.

Dang, 2 downvotes. I guess Greg and his husband read this board

No, I just mean they leaned all the way in on the Olicity shippers. I don't think they made a good show for anyone.
And they also kept adding characters that I couldn't have cared less about if I tried. The second Black Canary, Wild Dog, Mr Terrific (who barely went by that name). All terrible.
At least Wild Dog was a regular guy though. You'd think that super geniuses grow on trees in the arrowverse.

Technically, in the comics, Dinah Drake was the FIRST Black Canary.

He was by far the best addition to the Arrow "team."

quote:He delivers what the networks want/need for specific ratings. You don't become the most successfully prolific producer by giving networks what they do not want. His shows for HBO Max are aimed for a different audience, resulting in shows with a non-CW flavor (Doom Patrol, Titans, Stargirl). If you hate all of his CW shows, you're probably not the audience they're aiming for. And Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow all had great seasons when they weren't going full CW.

100%. Those shows were pretty awful in general.
They make the Fox Marvel movies look like Citizen Kane.
The CW also took hit when the WWE moved their show to Fox

I was a fan of those shows, but he ruined them. You can’t give him credit for the few good seasons and not blame him for all the terrible ones. Nobody was asking for the Flash to defeat villains with love and friendship. Titans is just a CW show that can say frick.
