This is what makes me laugh about threads like this. Posters on this board love to say reality shows are for stupid people and have no place on tv but each one of those posters have a favorite reality show

Not this guy. I hate reality TV with every fiber of my being. I do not watch it, I will not watch it, and I think less of people who do watch it.

Be careful when making generalizations ipod. I think reality shows are stupid and have never watched one, and as such do not have a favorite one. You may ask how can I call them stupid if I've never watched one? Well, seeing the commercials and having respect for myself led to that conclusion.

Don't roll your eyes at me, sheep! You are allowing your brain to be led astray by that garbage.

I used to love Deadliest Catch until I found out it's filmed at San Alfonso del Mar.

Yeah because an episode of Pawn Stars or American Restoration would rot your brain.

An occasional chuckle from mindless entertainment. I like smart television, but I also, occasionally, like something that simply takes me away from my own "reality."

How about a new episode of Duck Dynasty and some re-runs of TLC's Trading Spaces while we're at it?

Reality tv shows only use is to give me something to watch at 1:00 a.m.
Mindless television that requires almost no prior knowledge of the show.

The problem today is most shows are "assisted reality" where the producers pretty much map out what will happen and let the cast play off of it, or set up fights and storylines.

Heres a fun challenge. Watch the one of the first few seasons of a sucessful reality show and then watch the latest season. Its a night and day difference. If you watch The Real World: San Francisco for example and then one of the lastest seasons it's the same basic concept sort of, but everything else is way different.

Again. Are all comedies the same? If not. How are all "reality" shows the same?

You aren't even making a comparison that makes sense. You said that reality shows cater to stupid people and are cheap to make, except for two shows that you like. You are trying to compare that to you liking a genre but that doesn't mean you have to like every movie / tv show in that genre? And you say the other guy is talking in circles?

By your logic, 2 + Circle = Banana. I hope you are not an LSU grad.

And I don't agree with the OP completely. I think point B should be that it is "mindless TV" as others have said. Some people that like it may be "stupid" people, but I know a lot of successful and intelligent people that watch these shows. Some people would rather watch a Mindless show and veg out instead of having to put their mind to a little bit of work in a more engaging show.

Like I said not all reality television is created equal. There are several programs out there that are actually good. But you can't really form an opinion on the matter. By your own admission you don't watch any of it, so your opinion doesn't really hold water at all.

Wife talked me into watching an episode of Survivor once. I was nice about it, I still visit her at the home on a regular basis.

Survivor makes Barney look like Masterpiece Theater. Reality shows are produced to give the non-watchers time off from spit cup duty.

is the correct answer.

Also, chicks. Chicks eat reality TV right up. For some reason, watching white trash bicker with each other is really entertaining to them.

Also, if I told you that Discovery Communications is, in many places, the only TV allowed in prison, would that make the "Learning Channel" programming make more sense?

Probably.

Doesn't explain A&E ... didn't this used to be a better channel?
