He was the better coach and had to take a demotion.

Real life Boone got fired for verbal abuse of players and staff. Imagine how big an a-hole you gotta be back then to get fired for that in the 70s.

I don’t know. Playing Bosley (Gosling) over Petey for that long is pretty egregious, even when he clearly couldn’t keep up with the WRs.
Also, Yoast himself says that Boone was the right man/better choice for the job.

The actual story is a lot different. TC beat the brakes off everyone they played that season. Had 9 shutouts.
I think coaching mattered a lot less than the fact that they combined 3 high schools into a mega school that was integrated 5 years earlier. It was also all juniors and seniors.

I have watched this movie so many times as it's my favorite football movie. and not one time did i think, you know coach Yoast needed more credit. Sad that you can't enjoy a movie without looking for a central narrative. You must be a miserable person.
