What's weird is it took me a 4-5 episodes before I noticed Gus had an accent.

I've been suspicious of Gomez for a while now. For instance, how did Mike always know what the cops were doing?

IMO, they deliberately revealed his ethnic identity at a very slow pace. Gus wanted to blend into polite society and tried to portray himself as a through and through American/upstanding citizen. As things unraveled, he clearly became more ethnic. His accent definitely emerged over time, especially when he was angry. It was basically his true identity emerging through the veneer he crafted
