It's RZA's first film and he's an unknown as a filmmaker (and unknown to anyone that doesn't listen to '90s hip-hop). I'd imagine it was a studio decision more than QT's.

I'd love to hear what you think the must-see movie of the year was/is.

As far as hype coming in, had to be The Dark Knight Rises.
Industry people have been hyping up Django for awhile though.

I want to see it. I don't care if QT made it or not. It looks entertaining.

It has 62% on Rottentomatoes so far. Which is much better than expected (still awaiting a ton of reviews left though...)
However, the movie was supposed to be 4 hours long. But was drastically cut for financial purposes.
So I look forward to the directors cut (which probably wont be 4hrs...but maybe 2hrs 30min) which will be better.

I read the script for Django Unchained.
frickING AWESOME is all I can say.
The previews are making it seem almost comical, but there wasn't much comedy in the script I read, just a lot of blood, sex, violence.

The top 3 were easily The Avengers, TDKR, and The Hobbit. If I had to throw a fourth in there, it'd be Skyfall. If we are going to acknowledge that teenage girls want, then two of their "movies" - The Hunger Games and Twilight Breaking Wind Part 8 - would be more hyped as well.
I'm going to see DU just like you but if I could only see 10 movies this year, it wouldn't crack it. I suspect that is the case for 90% of moviegoers.

They haven't been doing a very good job because I had never heard of it before this thread.
