*SPOILERS*

While it appears that Andrew upstages Fletcher after he appears to be sabotaged, Fletcher comes out as the winner because of his control over Andrew. You can see Andrew’s dad’s devastating reaction while he’s performing.

ETA: at least I think that’s what he means. The ending, incredible as it is, could be seen as happy but it isn’t.

The director has said he thinks Andrew will achieve greatness but be dead by 30

Didn’t realize jazz drummer was such a high risk profession.

That's exactly how I interpreted it and my wife interpreted it. His dad's face says it all. He achieved greatness, or will achieve greatness, but at the ultimate price of losing himself.

But wasn't that essentially his goal? So you could argue that it's a win (i.e. happy ending) for him, no?

Interstellar is re-releasing in 70mm IMAX in December for its 10th anniversary.

This is the re-release I'm interested in.

Simmons was amazing in whiplash, but it's not a movie I have much desire to watch again, and if I do, at home is sufficient.
