people don't have to leave their house for food, groceries, entertainment etc... even when they do, they don't have to walk they can always ride the fat carts.

we are almost in Wall-E world already.

Long term is going to be more like Alien/Aliens, than Star Trek.

There will not be any idealistic Starfleet exploring things, it will be big companies playing the long game- find a source of some fuel, send people over in suspended animation (reward their families or something) to go mine it, send it back to Earth, and hope when it arrives in a couple hundred years there's still a civilization capable of paying for it.

We'll see a time-condensed version in the solar system first, strip-mining Mars and harvesting things in and around the Asteroid Belt and Jupiter, with 20-30 yr contracts. If you're lucky, you can come home to retire (if your body isn't trashed and your job hit paydirt).
