Searched and didn’t see this discussed yet. If it was I’ll delete the thread.

Light, this looks really well done. By this scene alone it looks like they nailed Lan (and Moraine, but we kind of expected that). I’ll wait to see more to decide on the rest of the party.

It looks like that "scene" was edited down to fit their timeline and still be basically a whole scene with all the characters.

Here is a link that popped up on my youtube feed with the whole NYCC panel - will probably get taken down at some point but I enjoyed hearing the cast talk, they seem pretty invested in their characters and the feel of the books.

Yeah, there’s a reason why I’m just posting this stuff in the book board thread. This series isn’t really on this boards radar yet to post random clips.

Will someone explain the basic idea behind the series? LOTRs feel, but what the hell is a wheel of time. A clock?

Welp not really close to how most of the characters were described. I never pictured Lan as an asian warrior, Rands supposed to be taller than everyone and egwene had blond hair. sigh

Egwene 100% did not have blonde hair. You are thinking of Elayne.

The first 3 books have some LOTR vibes purposefully. The rest of the series does not.

The Wheel of Time (the concept) refers to the cyclical nature of time. Ages come and pass and come again. People are born again.

It’s not necessary to know or understand this to get or enjoy the series.

Yeah, that's right, either way, having Rand be shorter than his friends makes no sense, they constantly talk about his height in the books

The actor is like 6’2”. The actor playing Perrin is 6’3”.

How many 7 foot tall gingers that are actual good actors are around?

Moiraine is also like 5 foot tall at most but they cast Rosamund Pike who is like 5’9”. But she’s a good actress.

I’d rather have acting ability and sort of fit the character rather than have to be hugely tall or whatever.

I agree. If she is a good actress then I will get past it but every time I see her I think "this is not even close to Egwene."

I thought the same thing until I finished the first book and started the second. Pretty much every aspect of the culture of Shienaran and Malkier people all the way down to their names seems very Asian. So I think it makes sense.

Ya some of them weren't really how I pictured - Lan and Min are the biggest shocks, although you are absolutely right abut all the asian influences.

They nailed the looks with several such as Tam and Thom and especially Elayne for one. The rest of them most of them fit enough that I already start to think of them as the characters.

But a lot of them seem to be really taking to it, feeling out the nuances in their characters when talking about the upcoming role, reading all the books, etc. - far more important for them to be a good fit than look exactly how I picture them IMO.

Making your hero a giant is one of the more annoying and lazy habits of a previous generation of fantasy writers. Height was not a defining trait of Rand. Jordan used height as a shortcut to make Rand imposing. Just cast an actor who can pull off imposing. Size definitely was a defining trait of Perrin, and Jordan spent many more words detailing and calling back to Perrin's size. Perrin being all around bigger than Rand makes total sense. He's the brute strength guy

So the basic archetypes are reborn or people are reincarnated to repeat the circumstances?
