What would the Dark Knight Rises be if Ledger were alive?

Just to start it off, here is who I think the villains would be:

Joker
Harley Quinn
Talia al Ghul
Nyssa al Ghul

Personally I think Talia al Ghul and the League of Shadows would have still been a major part of it. The Dark Knight actually partially proves Ra’s point and would have fully if the ships blew each other up. It was really awkward in TDKR how they didn’t bring up the Joker at all since Joker represents everything Ra’s warned Bruce would happen if he followed his path. It makes the trilogy come full circle.

I think the structure would have been fairly similar with like an 8 year break in the narrative and Bruce being a recluse. I think the big difference is that Nolan replaced two major characters in his narrative: Joker with Bane and Harley with Catwoman.

Theoretically I think the start could have been similar with the League of Shadows acquiring a nuke or nuclear scientist, only with Nyssa acquiring it (still need to keep Talia a secret for the end). I think Harley would have been the Joker’s therapist, and the League gives her the means to bust Joker out. They give Joker a detonator and an army of thugs to the nuke, and Joker kills Nyssa for what he feels would be full control. Then he starts from where he left off using the nuke as leverage and starts getting brutal against Harley.

Batman and the Joker have similar encounters as in TDK with Joker going over the airwaves requesting horrific things that the populace obliges him with until does the ultimate: The US has until dawn to nuke another city with the same or larger population than Gotham and then he will surrender. Harley also manages to capture Batman almost killing him, but Joker shoots her over it.

From there, the ending is basically the same as the TDKR. Big clash between the police and Joker’s mob, Batman beats the Joker but it’s revealed (even to the Joker) that Tate is Talia, and Joker likes Batman’s love killing him so he goes along with it. When the detonator fails to go off, Talia goes off to set it off all the same and leaves Batman with Joker, but when Joker goes in for the kill to Batman, Harley comes in on the Batcycle the same killing Joker. And save for Harley being in Catwoman’s place and the very end of Bruce being with her in Venice, goes the exact same from there.

What are your thoughts on the direction they would have taken it?

Yeah none of that would of happened. Nolan said it Ledger lived; Scarecrow’s cameo would have been Joker’s cameo.

Well not only have I not heard that, if he did say that, then he was lying. There’s no way that quite literal cliffhanger Nolan had in mind for the end of Batman and Joker’s relationship.

Seriously, if James Earl Jones had died after the first film and they never brought Vader back, would anyone save for yourself believe that excuse? fricking laughable.

It doesn’t matter because in the Nolan-verse, Bruce was Batman for a grand total of about a year and a half combined. That’s just sad.

Now that I got that out of my system, I do think Joker would have had an expanded role, but I can’t really see Harley being a part. It was so bizarre to not even have Joker mentioned. At the very least, they should have repurposed some footage to show him in a cell at Black gate, maybe even just his eyes, and have Bane instruct his men not to let him out with the others.

“No. Leave him. Even anarchy must be tempered.”

Just keep on walking.

You need to learn your history then. There was another plan for TDK to essentially be a two part film a la IW and Endgame, but Nolan would only commit to one film at a time so that idea was scrapped before filming on TDK began. And Nolan himself has said it numerous times that of Ledger had lived he would have had the cameo I mentioned.

Believe it or not, I don’t care. We all know you started this thread to take a terrible fan fiction dookie on the board.

I recall watching a fan made video on YouTube several years back of an edited scene in which Catwoman kills Bane. The Joker replaced Catwoman’s role, & it leads into the Joker giving his “you and I are destined to do this forever” bit before running off. That would’ve been to a neat inclusion and call back IMO.

I like TDKR, but I don't think it needed an 8 year break. With the Joker alive, there's no way Batman dissappears for that long.
