What was the point of Blanca Selgado?

Was it to show how pathetic AJ was because he fell head over heels for a mixed race hood rat with a kid?
I still can't understand where she fit into the storyline, unless it solely was to setup the AJ suicide attempt scene.

I think was so they could write the scene where he gives his bike to the guys on the corner so they will be quiet.

I think it was part of his arc where he was shown to be a good person deep down while also depressed and angry at the life he had (due to Tony's lifestyle and the family history of depression).

AJ was a loser and a failure but not in the way you would expect a mob bosses son to fail. He failed in the way a rich banker or doctor's kid might fail. Spoiled, entitled, selfish, and, ultimately weak.
