Apocalypto

Apocalypto is my go to answer when this question is asked. It was so over-the-top awesome and intense the first time I saw it.

It's the only movie that's given me nightmares as an adult (and the only movie I can recall ever giving me nightmares at all). For 2 straight nights I was running from those dudes in my sleep.

I was trying to buy it about a year ago and found out it's out of print. WTF?

This.

If I want enlightenment, I'll crack a text and read something that interests me or challenges my views.

I don't need a fictional movie to tell me how to think.

Jaws. Was at the beach on vacation and went and saw it. Big mistake, to this day I can't get past waist high in the ocean.

Close Encounters of the third kind.

2001.

Star Wars. Saw it 6 times at the theater. Only movie I've gone to see more than once.

Many may not agree with my pick...but Bill Murray in The Razor's Edge. I remember walking out of it and saying..."Holy Shite...that guy can act".

Doesn't hurt that it is an amazing story by Somerset Maugham. Looking back at it now, it may be the most underrated movie I have seen.

Shawshank Redemption - Total storytelling masterpiece

A Few Good Men - First movie I ever watched about Law & Order, and say what you want about him (I hate hime now) but Tom Cruise gives a powerful performance, as does Jack obviously.

Apocalypto - Amazing look at Mayan civ. and the movie keeps the tension throughout. The ending kicks arse too.

Hell or High Water - This movie hit the spot for me, go apeshite over anything outlaw-ish or set in West Texas. Two of my favorite actors were in it.
