What version of Last of the Mohicans is best?

I guess there was controversy about different cuts altering scenes, dialogue, and music. I'm wanting to get the blu-ray version (director's definitive cut) as a gift for somebody who loves this movie. I think I saw it once but don't remember much about it.

The original VHS version is the best unfortunately.
Any DVD or Blu Ray version is the directors cut which adds boring and unneeded footage that belonged on the citing room floor. Also changes the music in the pivotal scene after Nat jumps off of the waterfall and is tracking Cora.
I love LOTM and Michael Mann, but the original theatrical and VHS version is much much better than Mann's directors cut.

Thanks for the info. That's too bad though. We don't have VHS so maybe I'll get the bluray and claim ignorance.

Cooper was such a hack.

Honestly, unless you're used to the VHS version, you won't notice much of a difference.
It's just one of my favorite movies and I used to watch the old version so much that it kills me every time I watch the DVD.
I'm a LOTM snob
I'm sure they'll love the BluRay version. Great movie and gift idea by you
