Don't forget Ezra Dax..
Hotness forgives much subpar acting. Not a supermodel like Jeri Ryan, but probably the “cutest” character on any of the series.

Adding to this thread...

Poor Doctor Bashir having to step up to the plate after Worf.

Yet another example of the overall and man-for-man superiority of DS9 over TNG. DS9 Worf >>>>> TNG Worf and, arguably, TNG Worf was TNG's third best character (after Data and Picard).

Picard and Sisko are about a push.

Data is better than any character on DS9 except Garak

After that, the DS9 characters are dominant over TNG. It's glaring when you compare them side-by-side.

Even Jake is better than Wesley (easily the respective series' worst characters).

My personal tastes on these;

Picard over Sisko.

Agreed on Data.

Garak is ok, but I thought they actually developed Quark pretty well in a few storylines. They did seem to be a little hand-tied with him by the Ferengi stereotypes (and of course the prosthetics/makeup), though.

I was never as big a Wesley hater as many, but Jake was pretty useless. It looks like at one point they decided to develop the Nog character over Jake.

On a shallower note - TNG pretty much struck out on the hot chick demographic. Troi just didn't quite make it and Crusher was way meh. Jadiza Dax and Kira Nerys were both pretty high up there for me. And there were the random Dabo girls. Voyager has Seven and the part Vulcan chick.

Not sure if you're mixing up Torres (half Klingon) from Voyager, or T'Pol (full Vulcan) from Enterprise or what, but I don't disagree with your overall point.

On your other point, I probably should have mentioned Quark, but all of the civilians and recurring Cardassians tended to be fantastic. Dukat, Damar, Garak - the Cardis tended to be very well acted. Likewise, many of the Ferengi were very good.

Of course, having Jeffrey Combs available for both recurring Ferengi antagonists and his brilliant turn as the various Weyouns helped DS9 quite a bit as well.

At the core of it - Marc Alaimo's Gul Dukat is the finest, most fully developed, 4-dimensional villain in all of filmed science fiction history, even nudging out Darth Vader and Khan. That was the anchor for a strong story, particularly the overall arc (which was unusual for the time - DS9 and its chief competitor, Babylon 5 were groundbreaking in the threaded storylines outside of soap operas, predating the Golden Age of television drama by almost a decade).

Yeah. I could have sworn I typed part Klingon. My bad.

And yes, Dukat was definitely a first rate villain.

Pretty much anyone in the entire Voyager crew. They were thrown into another part of the galaxy that they knew nothing about. Had to fight off Kazon, Vidiians, the Year of Hell, the Borg (numerous times), new space oddities, the Swarm, Species 8472, aliens they couldn't see, their own Starfleet allies, Hirogen, etc. They can make a great argument for having the single worst experience or ordeal.

Plus, they had Janeway as captain.

Always felt bad for Tuvix... I think Janeway made the right call killing him to bring back Tuvok and Neelix....but it was a sad episode.

Lt. Riker was left for dead on Nervala IV for eight years. When he’s finally rescued, he finds that the transporter had created a double who’d been rescued in his place. His double got promoted for his accomplishments on Nerval IV and fricked things up with Troi. He gets no advancement in rank and is transferred, leaving Troi on the same ship as his double. He bounces around aimlessly until he has to take a position with the Maquis. He’s sacrificed to save his crew and spends the rest of his life in a Cardassian labor camp.
