Frankly, It Happened One Night - the mother of all modern Romcoms. Although it was already following some of the code "tropes", for its day, it was pretty racy.

For a film approaching 90 years of age, it holds up extremely well.

Has a similar storyline to The Sun Also Rises (disillusioned WWI vets wander Europe getting drunk). Includes a scene where hero and heroine stroll through Pere Lachaise Cemetery (current home of Jim Morrison)

Robert Williams is the great lost leading man of classic Hollywood. He gives an amazing performance here. He died of a stomach ailment around the time of the film's release.

It's about a hot young chick sleeping her way to the top.

IMDb

John Wayne appears in two scenes as a young executive.

Photos of her seducing some of them:

Some of the dialogue from the above scene:

quote:

Lily Powers : Say, I like it here. How 'bout a job? Oh, now don't tell me in this great, big building there ain't some place for me?

Pratt - Personnel Office : Have you had any experience?

Lily Powers : Plenty.

[Rolls eyes]

Lily Powers : I'd rather wait in there. I hate crowds. Don't you?

Pratt - Personnel Office : The boss won't be back for an hour.

Lily Powers : Well then why don't we go in and talk this over?

[/img]

Her clothes and hairstyles improve as she moves up the ladder.

Coolest part of the movie is them showing the outside of the building, from the first floor, to the penthouse/boardroom, each time she seduces a man higher up the chain of command.

This song, in the opening credits, plays every time she moves up! (on YouTube)

Stanwyck was pretty much the Queen of the pre-code era.

My favorite of hers was Night Nurse.

Freaks, 1932. You've never seen anything like it. 1st watch is with mouth agape. 2nd watch includes empathy and seeing them as the people they are. The story is an old stoty, but it's solid.

A Few from Howard Hughes:

Hell's Angels

The Outlaw:

The Outlaw was actually a code era film and Hughes had a helluva time getting it approved. Not what the OP was asking for but I gave it an honorable mention

The Outlaw isn't precode

I fixed it while you were correcting my omission. I guess we have a code here...

Hughes was one of those legendary dudes and, despite his crippling illness that ultimately robbed him of some quality of life, he lived in high gear.

As to The Outlaw, he invented the modern cantilever bra in order to fully display Jane Russell's *ahem* "assets".

That is an OTer, my friend.
